Fitzpatrick surpasses Scheffler in PGA Tour earnings
Matt Fitzpatrick’s victory at the RBC Heritage has propelled him past Scottie Scheffler in prize money earnings on the PGA Tour for 2026, reports BritPanorama.
Fitzpatrick secured a dramatic win at Hilton Head Island, showcasing his composure under pressure. The tournament featured a purse of approximately $20 million (£14 million), of which the English golfer’s share amounted to $3.6 million (£2.6 million).
Following his success at the RBC Heritage, Fitzpatrick’s total earnings for the year rose to $9.2 million (£6.8 million), placing him ahead of Scheffler, who has accumulated $8.4 million (£6.2 million) thus far.
Scheffler, the world number one, finished in second place and earned $2.1 million (£1.5 million) from this event. Despite this setback, he expressed satisfaction with his performance, highlighting that only his putting let him down during the competition.
“Yeah, I did some solid stuff,” Scheffler noted after the tournament. “I think I had only one bogey over the weekend here, so I did a lot of really good things. Would have liked to have seen a few more putts go in, but overall I executed the way I wanted to.”
He acknowledged the challenges posed by difficult wind conditions and credits Fitzpatrick for capitalizing on key moments during the tournament. Fitzpatrick’s triumph came shortly after he claimed victory at the Valspar Championship, demonstrating a strong start to the season.
Fitzpatrick’s recent success positions him as the PGA’s highest earner so far in 2026. In the overall rankings, Cameron Young and Jacob Bridgeman follow closely, having earned respective totals of $7.7 million and $6.7 million (£5.6 million and £5 million).
As the competitive season progresses, the performances of both Scheffler and Fitzpatrick serve as a reminder of the ever-evolving landscape in professional golf, where triumphs can swiftly shift fortunes. The next events are sure to bring more twists to the tale, with each shot weighing heavily on the path to future victories.
