Mark Selby clashes with table during World Championship match

Mark Selby left the Crucible crowd gasping in disbelief after he slammed his cue against the table following a missed red during his World Championship battle with Wu Yize, reports BritPanorama.

The 42-year-old four-time champion found himself trailing 11-9 to the 22-year-old Chinese sensation, despite having held a two-frame advantage earlier in the contest. Selby appeared on the verge of claiming the 21st frame when a routine red bounced off the corners of the bottom right pocket, handing momentum back to Wu.

Selby’s frustration boiled over, smacking his cue against the table with a startling sound that carried throughout the famous Sheffield venue. The noise startled spectators and nearly distracted Ronnie O’Sullivan and John Higgins, who were also in the midst of their own round-of-16 clash. Wu seized the moment, capitalising on Selby’s error to take the frame, moving within one of victory at 12-9.

Yet, the “Jester from Leicester” showcased his championship mentality, responding with a brilliant 95 break, narrowing the gap to 12-10. A match steeped in high stakes, Selby’s journey to this tense encounter had begun with an emphatic 10-2 victory over Jak Jones, where he swiftly asserted his dominance.

Selby, who has previously reached the World No. 1 ranking on multiple occasions, is keen to add a fifth World Championship title to his impressive collection after five years without snooker’s biggest prize. This year’s tournament, already marked by unexpected shifts, has seen other big names fall, including O’Sullivan and defending champion Kyren Wilson, creating a more open pathway for contenders.

As tension mounts, it remains to be seen how Selby’s emotional response will influence the outcome of what has evolved into one of the most unpredictable campaigns in recent memory. The Triple Crown event could yet see another dramatic twist before the final ball is potted.
