Marco Silva departs Fulham after five years

Marco Silva has left Fulham after five years in charge of the Cottagers, the club has confirmed, reports BritPanorama.

Fulham issued a statement saying, “We can confirm that Marco Silva will leave his role as Head Coach at Fulham this summer.” His tenure included significant achievements, notably guiding the team to their first league title in 21 years, when they scored 110 goals and dominated the Championship.

Silva addressed supporters in an open letter, stating, “After five years, our journey together comes to an end. I leave with a feeling I was told when I first arrived – that Fulham Football Club is a family.” He expressed gratitude towards club owner Shahid Khan and the staff, emphasizing the strong relationships built during his time at the club.

Khan acknowledged Silva’s contributions, noting, “Marco Silva leaves our club with my gratitude and best wishes. Fulham and Marco were an excellent fit for five seasons, but change is inevitable in this game, and we’ve accordingly prepared for this moment.” Under Silva’s management, Fulham also re-established themselves as a competitive Premier League side, comfortably finishing in the top half this past season.

Silva has now been confirmed as the new head coach of Benfica, signing a contract until June 2028, with an option for an additional year. The decision follows news that José Mourinho will leave the Portuguese club for Real Madrid. Kieran McKenna is currently the favourite to replace Silva at Fulham, having achieved promotion with Ipswich Town this season.

As Fulham embarks on a new chapter, the club faces the challenge of maintaining momentum while welcoming a new manager to the helm—a task that will test both the squad’s resilience and the club’s ambitions in the competitive landscape of English football.
