Jamie Carragher’s social media hacked
Jamie Carragher’s social media accounts appear to have been compromised, as the former Liverpool star’s X account made a series of posts promoting ways to profit from cryptocurrency, reports BritPanorama.
The X account of the pundit has since been made private, restricting access to approved followers only. The latest message included images of a green Porsche, which the hacker attributed to “crypto profits.”
In one of the hacked messages, Carragher purportedly stated, “I don’t usually post things like this, but it’s only fair to give credit to my coach. Yesterday I made a withdrawal from my crypto profits, and today I was able to purchase a car quite remarkable. Grateful for the progress, thanks to @TennesseTracy for the guidance.”
This is not the first instance of Carragher experiencing social media breaches; his account was previously taken over during the 2024 European Championships. It is noteworthy that millions of users face hacking incidents annually, with approximately one in three social media users experiencing some form of security breach.
Football finance expert Kieran Maguire advised caution, sharing a private message received from Carragher, urging followers not to engage with suspicious messages or links claiming to be from him. “If you get a DM from Jamie Carragher asking to click on a link for a competition or see some unusual posts on his account do not engage,” Maguire warned, highlighting the fraudulent nature of the posts. Meanwhile, Carragher’s Instagram remains unaffected by the hacking incident, which seems to have impacted only his X account.
Despite the disruption to his social media presence, Carragher is scheduled to broadcast later this evening on Sky Sports, covering Manchester United’s clash against Brentford. The match holds significant implications, as the Red Devils are aiming to secure a three-point lead over Aston Villa and Liverpool, further solidifying their place in the top three of the Premier League.
In the broader context of football, this incident underscores the vulnerabilities associated with digital platforms, especially for high-profile individuals. Such security breaches serve as a reminder of the delicate balance between public engagement and personal privacy, a reality that continues to challenge many in the spotlight.
