Dua Lipa declines performance at Joshua-Fury fight
Dua Lipa has turned down an invitation to take the stage at the highly anticipated Anthony Joshua versus Tyson Fury heavyweight clash, reports BritPanorama.
The three-time Grammy winner, recognized for hits such as “New Rules” and “Levitating,” declined the opportunity to perform during the promotional event. This decision comes as a surprising twist, given that Saudi financier Turki Alalshikh suggested the entire bout could be in jeopardy without the 30-year-old British pop star’s involvement.
It remains unclear whether Alalshikh’s comments were made in jest or with genuine intent. The situation has since developed, as confirmation emerged this week that terms for the long-awaited Battle of Britain have been agreed upon.
Wembley Stadium is currently viewed as the most likely venue for the showdown, although no official announcement has yet been made. The fight is expected to take place towards the latter part of 2026.
Alalshikh, who chairs Saudi Arabia’s General Entertainment Authority, confirmed the deal on social media, stating: “To my friends in Great Britain – it’s happening. It’s signed.” He had been keen for Dua Lipa to perform, expressing admiration for her music.
Promoter Eddie Hearn commented on the situation, clarifying: “That’s not a request from either fighter or me.” He added that if Netflix wants to produce the show, it must feature Dua Lipa in London, placing the responsibility back on Alalshikh.
Joshua is preparing for his return to the ring on July 25, facing Albanian fighter Kristian Prenga in Riyadh. This bout will mark Joshua’s first time back in the ring following a devastating car accident in Nigeria last December, resulting in the tragic loss of two close friends and team members, Sina Ghami and Latif Ayodele.
Both Joshua and Hearn have spoken about the psychological impact of the tragedy, with Joshua acknowledging that it has taken time for him to recover and prepare for his return. “As I said, the landlord will collect his rent. That is certain,” he remarked, referring to his multi-fight deal in Saudi Arabia.
With both boxers eager for the match, it poses an intriguing scenario, especially as Joshua wrestles with the weight of recent events while Fury looks to assert his dominance after a successful comeback. In the world of boxing, the stakes have never felt higher, a reality that underscores the unique human stories interwoven with every bout.
