Djokovic shares a light moment with a ball girl at Wimbledon
During a recent match against Stefanos Tsitsipas, Novak Djokovic lightened the atmosphere with a playful prank aimed at a ball girl, reports BritPanorama.
As the seven-time Wimbledon champion had strapping cut from his shoulder, he feigned getting hurt when the ball girl cautiously used scissors. The unexpected performance brought laughter, capturing a moment of surprise that turned into relief for the young girl, who was left momentarily shocked.
Djokovic commented on the incident, saying, “I guess these kinds of things surface when you are two sets to love up rather than two sets to love down, but Stefanos went to change and I had some spare time! I’m sorry if I scared her! It wasn’t that great of a joke, I guess, but it made me a bit more relaxed on the court! I was just having some fun.”
The Serbian went on to dominate the match, defeating Tsitsipas with a score of 6-3, 6-4, 6-2, as he pursues his eighth Wimbledon title. Reflecting on his performance, Djokovic expressed satisfaction and delight, noting that once he gained momentum, he felt a surge of confidence that allowed him to play freely. “I like the terminology ‘vintage’, it is nice because it brings back the best days,” he remarked, illustrating both his enjoyment and competitive spirit.
With his focus firmly on the next round, Djokovic demonstrated that even in high-stakes competition, moments of levity can emerge, reminding fans that the sport is not solely about the results, but also the experiences shared on court. In tennis, as in life, it’s those unexpected moments that often linger long after the final point is played.
