Cristiano Ronaldo reveals engagement details with Georgina Rodriguez
Cristiano Ronaldo has disclosed details of his proposal to partner Georgina Rodriguez for the first time, admitting he did not make a traditional gesture of kneeling, reports BritPanorama.
The 40-year-old football star recognised the spontaneity of his proposal, which took place at 1am. He shared that he was unprepared for the moment, which has made headlines since the couple announced their engagement in August after nine years together.
The unexpected proposal was prompted by the couple’s daughters, Alana and Ava, who found Ronaldo with the engagement ring. “Daddy, you’re going to give the ring to mum and you’re going to ask her to get married,” they said, which led Ronaldo to act in the spur of the moment. He recalled, “Wow, this is the right moment to say yes,” during a subsequent interview.
Friends present at the occasion captured the impromptu moment on camera. While Ronaldo had intended to propose, he had not anticipated doing so that particular evening. He characterised himself as someone who does not conform to traditional romantic gestures, stating, “I don’t deliver flowers weekly,” preferring to show affection in his own ways. Despite his self-assessment, he expressed that the moment was emotional, admitting, “I didn’t cry but I had tears in my eyes.”
Ronaldo expressed his desires to Rodriguez in a heartfelt speech during the proposal, highlighting the significance of intention over formality. The engagement ring, which features what specialists believe to be a 15 to 20-carat diamond set in platinum, is estimated to be valued at £1.5 million. Rodriguez reportedly appreciated his sincerity more than the extravagant nature of the jewellery.
She later confirmed the engagement on Instagram, posting a photo of the ring with the caption: “Yes, I do. In this and in all my lives.” Prior to the public announcement, Ronaldo had been elusive about wedding plans, stating that the couple would marry “when we get that click.”
The wedding is anticipated to occur in 2026, following the conclusion of the World Cup, a reminder of how even the most famous athletes are not immune to the complexities of personal life.
