Brydon Carse faces charges from cricket regulator over Derby nightclub incident

England bowler Brydon Carse charged by Cricket Regulator

The Cricket Regulator has charged England fast bowler Brydon Carse with a breach of Regulation 3.2 of the ECB Professional Conduct Regulations, stemming from an incident in Derby during the early hours of August 23, 2026, reports BritPanorama.

The case will now be passed to the independent Cricket Discipline Panel for adjudication. The regulation in question prohibits any participant from behaving in a way “which is improper or which may be prejudicial to the interests of cricket or which may bring the ECB, the game of cricket or any cricketer or group of cricketers into disrepute.”

The 31-year-old was arrested on suspicion of being drunk and disorderly, although he was subsequently de-arrested. Carse had been out celebrating with teammates following their County Championship victory over Derbyshire. Social media footage showed Carse in handcuffs during the incident, which took place after Durham’s away fixture against Derbyshire.

Derbyshire Police confirmed they were examining allegations of assault linked to the events of that evening. However, the investigation concluded last month without further action. The Cricket Regulator announced on Friday that its own inquiry had resulted in the formal charge against Carse, impacting his international career immediately.

In response to the incident, England selectors removed Carse from the Test squad for the remainder of their series against Pakistan. He was also excluded from both the T20I and ODI squads for the ongoing series against Sri Lanka, effectively sidelining him from all international cricket. An ECB spokesman acknowledged the charge, stating, “We are aware of the Cricket Regulator’s decision to charge Brydon Carse. Brydon now has the opportunity to respond through the established process. As we do not wish to prejudge the outcome, it would not be appropriate for us to comment further.”

As this situation unfolds, it serves as a reminder of the delicate balance that athletes must maintain between personal conduct and professional responsibilities, a challenge as old as the sport itself.
