Arthur Fery looks to Emma Raducanu after Wimbledon breakthrough
Arthur Fery insists he is ready for the biggest challenge of his career after revealing he plans to lean on Emma Raducanu following his remarkable Wimbledon breakthrough, reports BritPanorama.
The British star’s dream run at the All England Club came to an end after a semi-final defeat to Alexander Zverev, yet his performances over the past fortnight have significantly transformed both his ranking and prospects on the ATP Tour.
Fery arrived at Wimbledon as a wildcard, facing low expectations. However, he ended up producing one of the Championships’ standout stories, winning five matches to become the first men’s singles wildcard to reach the Wimbledon semi-finals since Goran Ivanisevic in 2001.
His sensational run has propelled him to world No. 36, securing direct entry into this summer’s US Open. Fery is now also positioned to participate in prestigious ATP Masters 1000 tournaments during the North American hard-court swing, including events in Canada and Cincinnati.
This rapid rise has inevitably led to comparisons with Raducanu, whose remarkable 2021 breakthrough saw her reach the fourth round at Wimbledon before achieving a historic victory at the US Open as a qualifier. Fery has expressed hope to learn from her experience in navigating the transition from emerging talent to established competitor.
“Yeah, yeah, yeah. Well, the first part of it is having good people around me who are going to help me in that transition,” Fery said when asked about seeking Raducanu’s guidance. He also mentioned the progress of other players, including Valentin Vacherot, who went from relative obscurity to success following his triumph at the Shanghai Masters.
Fery will now look to consolidate his Wimbledon heroics into sustained success. He had already demonstrated promise before arriving at SW19, reaching the second round at two Grand Slams despite spending much of the season outside the world’s top 100.
His victories against established players such as Grigor Dimitrov and Flavio Cobolli underscored his ability to compete at the highest level. With his new ranking alleviating the pressure of qualifying rounds, Fery approaches the North American swing with renewed momentum and confidence, aiming to establish himself among the top names in men’s tennis.
After making a name for himself at Wimbledon, the real test will be proving this is just the beginning of his ascent in the sport, as the competitive landscape of tennis continues to evolve.
