Alan Brazil departs talkSPORT show due to illness

Veteran broadcaster Alan Brazil left the talkSPORT breakfast programme unexpectedly on Thursday morning after feeling unwell during the live show, reports BritPanorama.

The 66-year-old former Manchester United and Scotland striker was co-hosting the show with Gabriel Agbonlahor when he departed the studio after a commercial break, approximately two-and-a-half hours into the broadcast.

Agbonlahor addressed listeners, stating, “You’re listening to the talkSPORT Breakfast with me, Gabby. Big Alan Brazil is feeling a bit poorly, but he’ll be back as soon as he can.” Katie Shanahan subsequently filled in for Brazil, ensuring the programme continued smoothly.

The incident occurred after 8am, and talkSPORT has since confirmed that Brazil is recovering well, with plans to return to the airwaves next Wednesday. Shanahan reassured concerned listeners, saying, “Alan Brazil is currently feeling a bit poorly but don’t worry listeners, he’s okay.”

Following Brazil’s departure, Shanahan and Agbonlahor carried on with the rest of the show, welcoming former Premier League midfielder Vinnie Jones as a guest later in the broadcast. Changes to the presenting lineup include Shebahn Aherne joining Ray Parlour for Friday’s breakfast show.

The regular Monday and Tuesday shows will proceed as usual, with Jeff Stelling and Ally McCoist taking over hosting duties. Brazil has been a key figure on talkSPORT’s breakfast programme since the station launched in 2000, having shared presenting responsibilities in recent years.

Social media saw listeners expressing concern for the well-known presenter. One fan tweeted, “Hope Alan Brazil is ok. Was on TalkSPORT all morning then all of a sudden Gabby Agbonlahor was on his own saying ‘he’s not feeling well’.” Another remarked on how quickly the situation changed, noting that Brazil seemed perfectly fine earlier in the programme.

As the wave of well-wishes continues, it serves as a reminder of the often unseen challenges faced by on-air personalities and how swiftly a routine broadcast can take an unexpected turn.
