Reform UK plans to detain illegal migrants in Green-controlled areas

Nigel Farage has announced plans for the detention of thousands of illegal migrants in areas controlled by the Green Party as part of a radical policy initiative. Reform UK aims to establish centres for at least 24,000 individuals, as part of their strategy to address immigration concerns, reports BritPanorama.

These proposals come just ahead of local elections across England, Wales, and Scotland, with Reform UK consistently leading in national polls. The party plans to create an online portal to identify localities suitable for such facilities, based on anticipated polling data.

Under these plans, migrants would be detained for the final two weeks prior to their deportation, without the ability to leave the facilities. Zia Yusuf, the party’s Home Affairs spokesman, stated that they intend to use the initiative as a counter to opponents advocating for open borders.

Farage’s strategy includes the introduction of the Mass Deportation Act, enabling the Home Secretary to circumvent local council opposition to the establishment of these centres. The goal is to deport all illegal migrants in Britain through their Operation Restoring Justice framework, which Yusuf asserts is supported by the majority of the British public.

Yusuf emphasized that detention facilities will be strategically located in Green constituencies, highlighting the party’s assertion that this approach will align with democratic consent regarding mass deportation. He remarked, “Given the Green Party advocate for open borders, we will prioritise Green constituencies and Green-controlled councils.”

A spokesman for the Green Party responded critically, accusing Reform UK of making “unserious announcements” to distract from their political agenda, which they allege includes plans to privatise the NHS. The Green Party stresses its commitment to addressing housing shortages, public service improvements, and cost-of-living issues.

Overall, this proposed shift in immigration policy underscores the contentious debates surrounding immigration in the UK, especially in the lead-up to pivotal elections.

As public discourse on immigration continues to intensify, the effectiveness and ethical implications of such detention strategies will likely remain a critical focal point for voters and policymakers alike.
