Farage accuses Tory chairman of endangering safety with Nazi comparison

Nigel Farage has accused Conservative chairman Kevin Hollinrake of jeopardising his safety after a comment likening Reform to the Nazis, reports BritPanorama.

Farage, the Reform party leader, deemed Hollinrake’s remarks “wholly irresponsible,” particularly given the current climate of increased threats toward politicians. The controversy arose when Hollinrake shared an image of Reform’s new logo alongside a reference to a Nazi badge associated with Adolf Hitler’s supporters.

In his reaction, Farage chastised the implication that many of Reform’s members were being compared to Nazis, labelling the social media post as “unpleasant,” “stupid,” and indicative of poor judgment during a time of escalating political tensions. He referenced the rhetoric surrounding American influencer Charlie Kirk prior to his assassination this year, suggesting parallels in the language used.

Hollinrake’s post incited further backlash when he linked the logo to an image of a Nazi badge. Drawing attention to this, Farage pointed out, “It’s just unpleasant, stupid, bad judgment and also doesn’t help that he does it at a time when politics can be getting quite nasty and in some ways quite dangerous.”

In response, Kemi Badenoch, the Minister for Women and Equalities, defended Hollinrake’s comments as a “joke” and remarked that Reform spends considerable time “abusing” other politicians online. Farage dismissed this response, indicating that such remarks were insensitive considering the ongoing threats he faces, noting, “It’s not that funny.”

Despite facing criticism, Hollinrake reportedly has no plans to resign. His actions have further deepened divisions within the Conservative Party, with fellow Tory MP Suella Braverman expressing her disapproval of the chairman’s remarks.

The incident underscores the fragility of political discourse in the UK, particularly as pressures mount within party structures. Reform has since urged Kemi Badenoch to officially distance herself from Hollinrake’s comments amidst the fallout. The political landscape remains tense as parties grapple with the implications of inflammatory rhetoric.

The controversy epitomises a broader issue concerning language used in politics, highlighting the balance between free expression and the potential for harmful comparisons. As tensions escalate, the impacts on public safety and political accountability warrant continued scrutiny.
