Poland warns of potential Russian drone strikes targeting NATO countries

France has announced plans to mobilise “all state services” following a series of hybrid attacks from Russia over recent weeks, indicating rising concerns about national security, reports BritPanorama.

This development comes amidst Russia’s parliamentary elections, taking place with the backdrop of its ongoing conflict in Ukraine. Approximately 111 million voters are expected to participate in these elections, which represent the first since the start of the full-scale invasion in 2022.

With political opposition nearly non-existent, President Vladimir Putin’s United Russia party is anticipated to maintain its authoritative grip on power. Results from these elections will likely be utilised by the Kremlin to demonstrate public endorsement of its war strategies.

French President Emmanuel Macron addressed the media following a meeting with political leaders in Paris, stating, “The threat – particularly the Russian hybrid threat – facing Europeans and France has intensified.” He highlighted that the nature of Russian aggression appears to be evolving.

Interior Minister Laurent Nunez echoed these sentiments on X, asserting, “The goal is clear: to mobilise all state services and local stakeholders so as to be ready to face these new threats.”

France is the latest Nato member to raise alarms about Russian hybrid attacks, following Germany’s recent accusation regarding an attempted drone strike at Leipzig Airport in August. Speculation surrounds the intent behind such operations, reflecting unease within European nations regarding their vulnerability.

The implications of these actions and the broader security posture of Europe underscore a precarious relationship with Russia, which continues to assert its military capabilities in various forms, contributing to an atmosphere of tension across the continent.

Such developments serve to highlight the ongoing complexities of security dynamics in Europe, painting a picture of a continent increasingly wary of its eastern neighbour’s intentions.
