Manchester United to promote charitable foundation in Champions League
Manchester United will make a special change to their shirts throughout this season’s Champions League campaign to promote the work of the club’s charitable foundation, reports BritPanorama.
The Manchester United Foundation logo will appear on the back of the men’s team’s kit during every match they play in Europe’s elite club competition. United will display the design for the first time when Michael Carrick’s side welcome Champions League debutants Sabah to Old Trafford on Thursday night. This fixture marks the Red Devils’ return to the tournament after an absence of three years.
United hope the prominent placement of the Foundation’s branding during these high-profile matches will raise awareness of the charity’s work across Greater Manchester. Established in 2007, the Manchester United Foundation now works with over 30,000 young people each year, running 129 projects aimed at delivering educational and community engagement programmes that encourage positive choices among participants.
Ashley Hackett, the Foundation’s chief executive, expressed confidence in the initiative, stating, “This is a wonderful opportunity for us, offering unparalleled exposure on one of football’s biggest stages during Manchester United’s famous European nights.” He added that proceeds from this initiative will be crucial in continuing their impactful work, helping them deliver programmes that make a significant difference to the young people they support.
Moreover, United supporters will have the opportunity to add the charity’s logo to their own shirts. Fans will be able to request the branding on either newly purchased items or existing United shirts at the club’s Megastore. Net profits raised by this initiative will be donated to the Foundation, which allows it to continue supporting young people across Greater Manchester and beyond.
The change also ensures that the Foundation will receive considerable international exposure as United prepares to face some of Europe’s biggest clubs. After beginning their campaign against Sabah, Carrick’s men will encounter formidable opponents including Bayern Munich, RB Leipzig, Roma, Atletico Madrid, Como, Sporting Lisbon, and Villarreal in a challenging opening phase.
United’s return to the Champions League, after a lengthy absence, serves not only to rekindle the club’s European aspirations but also to highlight the foundation’s mission. With each match, the Foundation’s visibility amplifies, reinforcing the community’s connection to the club and its commitment to making a difference.
In a season where football often feels eclipsed by off-field narratives, Manchester United’s initiative is a reminder of the sport’s potential to effect positive change, demonstrating how philanthropy and passion can intertwine on the grandest stage of European football.
