Mikel Arteta reassures Arsenal fans about his future
Mikel Arteta has expressed confidence in his commitment to Arsenal, indicating he intends to sign a new contract at the Emirates Stadium, reports BritPanorama.
The 44-year-old manager is in the final year of his current deal following Arsenal’s Premier League success last season. Expectations for contract extension talks are positive, with both parties aiming to resolve the situation without complications.
Arteta earns approximately £10 million per year and could see an increase should negotiations for fresh terms proceed. Ahead of the Community Shield match against Manchester City in Cardiff, he made his intentions clear, reassuring supporters.
“The fans don’t have to worry about any of that, because I want to be here. I am extremely happy,” Arteta stated. He further noted, “I feel very grateful to work with the people that I work with and when we have the possibility, we will resolve that. And that’s it. There is always another priority!”
Despite the ticking clock on his contract, Arteta maintains that there is no tension within the club regarding his position. He believes that both he and the club are content with the current state of discussions. “That’s the way we have been treating it because everybody feels comfortable that the time on the contract is not going to be an issue,” he added.
The Spaniard’s remarks coincide with Arsenal’s ongoing efforts to further strengthen their squad after last season’s achievements. Although a new attacker is on the agenda, Arteta noted the significant transfer fees dominating the market, something that has taken him by surprise. “Yes. I wouldn’t have bet,” he admitted regarding the high valuations clubs are now paying.
Meanwhile, key players Declan Rice, Bukayo Saka, and Martin Zubimendi, who missed a recent friendly against Como, are expected to return in time for Sunday’s match. “They will be available. They will train, and if they are in the condition that we expect them to be, they will be involved,” Arteta confirmed.
However, Jurrien Timber will not be able to participate due to his ongoing recovery from a groin injury, and William Saliba’s condition is described as a long-term concern. As Arsenal prepares to face City, who are adapting under new management after Pep Guardiola’s exit, the match promises to be a challenging test.
