Jadon Sancho trains at Flixton FC amid speculations about his future
Jadon Sancho, the 26-year-old former Manchester United winger now without a club, has been keeping himself in shape at an unlikely venue — 10th-tier Flixton FC in Greater Manchester, reports BritPanorama.
Sancho departed Old Trafford at the end of June when his contract expired, joining fellow free agents Casemiro and Tyrell Malacia. His training at Flixton, just three miles from United’s Carrington training complex, has drawn attention and sparked speculation regarding his next career move.
In videos shared on Flixton’s social media, Sancho expressed his approval of the facilities, saying, “You’ve got a nice layout here. It’s my first time around this area, and it’s the first time I’ve seen a nice pitch [in this area] apart from United and City.” His presence, however, led to a flurry of online conjecture about a potential connection with the club.
Flixton’s owner, Christopher Garcia, swiftly addressed the rumors, stating that Sancho was not on trial and had not engaged in any transfer discussions. He clarified that the player was simply using their facilities for a private training session while preparing for the next chapter of his career. “Jadon was nothing but professional, humble, and generous with his time,” Garcia remarked, highlighting the positive impression Sancho left during his visit.
After his time at Manchester United, where he struggled to replicate his previous form from Borussia Dortmund, Sancho has been through a tumultuous period. His contract with United came after a £73 million transfer in the summer of 2021, but the relationship with coach Erik ten Hag deteriorated severely, culminating in public accusations of being a “scapegoat.” Following this fallout, Sancho spent a loan period back at Dortmund, which saw him reach the Champions League final. He later joined Chelsea, scoring in their Conference League final triumph in 2025.
Despite a storied record of appearing in three consecutive European finals for three different clubs, Sancho has attracted limited interest from potential suitors. Reports indicate that Qatari club Al-Rayyan has inquired about him, while Atletico Madrid is also monitoring his situation. Furthermore, Sancho has not dismissed a move to the Middle East, where the Saudi Pro League is presenting another avenue.
Yet to find a new club, Sancho’s status as a free agent, with no transfer fee required, suggests a move could be imminent. “Our doors will always be open to him,” Garcia stated, reflecting the local support Sancho has garnered during his time at Flixton.
