Man discovers sister after years of working together
A man who was adopted as a baby found his birth family after realising he had been working with his sister for two years, reports BritPanorama.
Dave Green, 60, a bus station supervisor at Manchester Airport, made the discovery when Andrea Urmston, who worked at the station filling vending machines, became a regular presence in his daily routine.
The pair had formed a friendship over their shared interest in motorbikes before a conversation in 2007 about fostering prompted Mr Green to mention his adoption. This led to discussions that revealed they had the same mother.
“People don’t meet like that, it’s not what happens in everyday life, but ours are not everyday lives any more,” said Mr Green.
Ms Urmston, 53, confirmed that her brother had been placed for adoption and, through their shared recollections, they traced their familial connection. Upon meeting their mother, who had given birth to Mr Green at the age of 15, Mr Green realised he had frequently driven past her home in Altrincham while working.
The emotional reunion was described by Ms Urmston as “amazing.” She recounted, “It was just something she had wanted so much and she just couldn’t believe it. It was a surreal moment, there were lots of tears and then we all just hugged.”
Despite growing up separately, the siblings discovered they share many similarities, including their preferences for tea and a mutual fondness for “tomato sauce butties.”
“I have always thought it’s not what you have in your life, it’s who you have in your life,” Mr Green reflected. “Somebody or something gave me the thumbs up that day and things will never be the same again, things haven’t been the same for 20 years and they’re not going to be ever again because I’ve got the one thing in my life that I need to make it special.”
