Charlie Woods confronts fan during US Junior Championship
Charlie Woods, 17, faced a challenging moment during the play-off at the US Junior Championship when a fan took a picture of his backswing, prompting an immediate reaction from him, reports BritPanorama.
Competing at the Saucon Valley Country Club, Woods found himself in a tough position on the first play-off hole, unable to reach the green in two shots and leaving himself in the rough, approximately 25 yards short of the target.
As he attempted to chip onto the green, the fan’s camera shutter went off mid-swing, disrupting his play. The young athlete dropped his club and turned to the spectator, exclaiming, “Really, dude?” Another voice from the crowd remarked, “Right in his swing.” Woods was one of 14 participants vying for two spots in match play.
Despite struggling earlier in the tournament with a six-over-par in his first five holes, Woods rallied to finish one-under-par in the next 31 holes. However, after faltering in the first play-off hole, Eli Wessel, Hudson Kutchma, and Leo Gao advanced to the second play-off hole, where Wessel and Kutchma succeeded in moving on to match play.
Looking ahead, Woods is preparing for his senior year in high school, with expectations to sign with the Seminoles. He is set to join top junior player Miles Russell in the 2027 recruiting class. The standout golfer entered this championship as the 174th seed by the American Junior Golf Association.
Woods had previously qualified for the US Junior Championship through a tense three-for-one play-off at Heathrow Country Club in Lake Mary, Florida, ultimately tying for fifth. Notably, he did not make the cut in the 2024 or 2025 events during his father Tiger Woods’ appearances.
Tiger himself won the US Junior Amateur Championship three times from 1991 to 1993, a feat yet to be matched. His legacy looms large during these competitions, reminding all involved of the pressure that accompanies expectations in golf.
