Two U.S. service members killed in Iranian missile attack

Two U.S. service members were killed Friday while defending against an Iranian ballistic missile and drone attack in Jordan, and another service member is missing, U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) said Saturday, reports BritPanorama.

CENTCOM reported that the troops were killed in action on July 17 as U.S. and partner forces responded to the attack. Specific details regarding the location in Jordan where the incident occurred have not been disclosed, nor has additional context regarding the attack’s circumstances.

Four other American service members were medically evacuated to hospitals in Jordan but have since been released. Other personnel evaluated for minor injuries have returned to duty.

CENTCOM stated it would withhold the identities of the two service members killed until 24 hours after their families have been notified.

The incident underscores ongoing tensions in the region and the challenges faced by U.S. forces operating near Iranian influence.
