Scottie Scheffler's remarkable streak ends as he misses cut at Scottish Open

Scottie Scheffler’s remarkable streak has ended as the world number one missed the cut at the Scottish Open. The American golfer’s run of 1,428 days without failing to qualify for the weekend in a tournament came to a halt, reports BritPanorama.

Competing at the Renaissance Club, Scheffler was in search of his first win in Scotland ahead of the upcoming Open Championship. After a first-round score of 68, he started well but faltered with a two-over-par 72 in the second round, finishing on level par, two strokes shy of the cut mark.

This marks the first time Scheffler has failed to progress past the cut since the 2022 FedEx St Jude Championship. With this result, Matt Fitzpatrick now holds the longest active streak of consecutive cuts made at 28.

Reflecting on his performance, Scheffler stated, “It felt like nothing was going right. I didn’t really feel like I played that bad. This golf course can be just tough at times. There’s some humps and mounds out there.” He added his dissatisfaction with the course, saying, “This is a golf course I feel like I can play well on. I just haven’t for some reason.”

Despite a couple of birdies during his second round, Scheffler was unable to recover from early bogeys on holes 11 and 12. “I’m definitely proud of the consistency,” he noted, wishing he had more time to make up ground over the weekend.

Looking ahead, Scheffler did not confirm whether he would return to the Scottish Open in subsequent years, as he shifts his focus to the final major of the 2026 season.

As the tournament unfolds, Rory McIlroy leads the pack at nine-under-par, alongside Tom Kim and Jordan Smith, while notable players like Ludwig Aberg, Shane Lowry, and PGA Championship winner Aaron Rai also missed the cut.

In golf, as in life, even the best players encounter challenges; Scheffler’s missed cut is a reminder of the sport’s unpredictability and the relentless nature of competition.
