Tuchel praises respectful atmosphere from Mexican fans ahead of World Cup clash
Thomas Tuchel has labelled Mexico’s fans as “respectful” despite some supporters trying to wake up the England squad, reports BritPanorama.
The Three Lions face Mexico in the knockout stage of the World Cup at 1am BST, with a potential quarter-final match against either Brazil or Norway on the line. Upon arrival in Mexico City, England encountered a mix of cheers and boos, as some fans attempted to rouse the team during the night.
Security measures have been tightened, with members of Mexico’s National Guard stationed outside England’s hotel, ensuring that supporters could not get too close. Tuchel noted that there had been no significant issues reported by the England team.
Speaking about the incident, Tuchel emphasized: “We had no issues tonight, and I think FIFA took care of the situation. We have security around the hotel so we expect a good night’s sleep. I don’t want to talk about problems that don’t exist yet. If they come, we will accept them. The best way to approach is to be relaxed and calm.”
The manager highlighted the emotional atmosphere present in Mexico City, noting: “What I experienced until now was very respectful and emotional and very supportive towards our teams, so we are very respectful towards everyone.” He also remarked on the significance of the upcoming match, calling it “a proper World Cup match” in an iconic venue.
As the hosts aim for their first World Cup quarter-final appearance since 1986, Tuchel acknowledged the unique challenges of playing at altitude in Mexico City, situated 2,200 metres above sea level. “Talking about the first 15-20 minutes [at altitude], it’s what we expect that feels very, very hard,” he said, while expressing confidence that his squad will adapt.
England is focused on performing under the immense pressure of this pivotal match, signaling a crucial turn in their World Cup journey. The anticipation builds as they prepare to take on a fervent Mexican side on what promises to be a memorable night of football.
Ultimately, it serves as a reminder of how passionate the World Cup brings out the fervour in fans, creating a complex tapestry of challenge and camaraderie in the tournament’s backdrop.
