Real Madrid denies transfer interest in Enzo Fernandez

Real Madrid has taken the extraordinary step of publicly denying any intention of signing Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez after weeks of speculation linking the Argentine with a move to the Bernabeu, reports BritPanorama.

The Spanish giants issued a firm statement stating they are not preparing a £120 million move for the 25-year-old, insisting they have not engaged in talks with either the player or Chelsea and have no plans to pursue a transfer. The club emphasized the need to address these reports to protect its reputation.

This intervention follows recent comments from Fernandez’s agent, Javier Pastore, which reignited speculation by suggesting that his client is evaluating his future at Stamford Bridge, while also praising the idea of joining Real Madrid. Despite this, Real Madrid maintained that such rumours are completely unfounded.

In their statement, Real Madrid clarified, “In response to the reports and comments that have appeared in recent days regarding Real Madrid C.F.’s alleged interest in signing Enzo Fernandez, the club wishes to state that it has not undertaken any action whatsoever, either directly or indirectly, aimed at signing the player.” They also reiterated their respect for both Fernandez and Chelsea FC, with whom they enjoy a strong institutional relationship.

The club’s assertion comes as it seeks to prevent misunderstandings among fans and to counteract what it deems as inaccurate media coverage. “These reports serve only to create confusion among supporters and unnecessarily harm the clubs and individuals involved,” the statement added.

Chelsea, for its part, has maintained that the World Cup winner will not be sold unless a club meets their £120 million valuation. Fernandez remains under contract at Stamford Bridge until 2032, having joined from Benfica for £106.8 million, and is viewed as a key player in the squad.

Although there have been discussions surrounding an improved contract for Fernandez, no agreement has been reached yet. Previously, the midfielder noted his desire to live in Madrid one day, a comment that reportedly caused internal friction at Chelsea and resulted in disciplinary measures last season.

While other clubs such as Paris Saint-Germain, Atletico Madrid, and Manchester City have shown interest in Fernandez, no formal bids have been made. Currently, he is focused on the World Cup with Argentina as they continue their quest for another title.

Real Madrid’s decision to publicly address transfer speculation is increasingly rare, reflecting the complexities of managing player transfers in modern football.
