The service will operate twice a week

Budget airline easyJet has launched a new route from Cornwall Airport to London Gatwick days after announcing plans for its first international flights from Newquay, reports BritPanorama.

The carrier’s summer route to the capital took off last week and will operate twice weekly on Tuesdays and Saturdays throughout the summer season.

This development follows the abrupt cancellation by Skybus of its future flights between Cornwall and London two months ago, mainly due to rising fuel costs. Skybus had taken over the route last year under a Passenger Service Obligation (PSO) contract co-funded by the government and the local council after the previous operator collapsed into administration.

The cancellation left only Ryanair’s Newquay to Stansted route available. easyJet’s first Cornwall to London Gatwick flight was launched on June 23, and Nigel Scott, the commercial director at Cornwall Airport Newquay, expressed that it was “fantastic” to see the new service “take to the skies.”

He noted that the new route would enhance London connectivity during the busy summer season and offer local passengers broader choices while facilitating visitor access to Cornwall. He also highlighted the launch of easyJet’s first international route to Geneva in Switzerland as a “real milestone” for the airport.

Scott pointed out that demand for direct ski access from the region is high, and the new Geneva service provides an affordable and convenient option for travellers seeking the Alps during the ski season, with the route commencing on January 16, 2027.

Kevin Doyle, easyJet UK country manager, remarked on the significance of these new flights. “Together they offer customers greater regional connectivity and access to Europe and beyond through our leading short-haul network while continuing to support Cornwall’s important visitor economy,” he stated.

Fares for the London Gatwick service start from £43.99, with flights to Geneva starting from £37.99.

The launch of easyJet’s new routes marks a significant development for regional connectivity in Cornwall, providing essential links to both domestic and international destinations. With rising demand and competition in the airline sector, these routes are poised to enhance travel options for locals and visitors alike.
