Jude Bellingham becomes England’s games master at World Cup

Jude Bellingham has emerged as England’s unexpected games master at the World Cup, having introduced a card game that has quickly captivated life within the Three Lions camp, reports BritPanorama.

The England squad, led by manager Thomas Tuchel, has spent the past fortnight acclimatising to their Kansas City base, and with the possibility of extending their stay for another three weeks should they advance to the final, players have turned to creative methods to occupy their downtime.

Despite the focus on training sessions and tactical discussions, England’s players have developed a strong affinity for SkyJo, a strategy card game aimed at achieving the lowest score. It was brought into camp by Bellingham and has swiftly gained popularity among several squad members.

Speaking ahead of their crucial match against Panama, Morgan Rogers noted that the players find it hard to put the game down. “A few of us yesterday when we rode our bikes to a coffee shop played cards,” he told the BBC. “Jude bought it; it’s a bit of a different one. I’ve never seen it before, but we’re addicted at the moment.”

Rogers, along with Bellingham, Jordan Henderson, Dan Burn, Anthony Gordon, and Elliot Anderson, participated in the latest rounds of this card game, which has contributed to fostering camaraderie amidst the competitions. However, it is not the players’ only distraction, as Tuchel aims to create a relaxed team atmosphere during the tournament. Players have also engaged in games resembling popular TV show concepts, such as Wolf and Imposter, while staff have made efforts to personalise the players’ accommodations with photographs of their families.

Some players are taking the opportunity to explore Kansas City, with Tuchel attending a local sporting event alongside key players like Harry Kane and Djed Spence, while Burn and Kane enjoyed a country music performance by Ella Langley. Henderson is also forging a mentoring role in the camp, seen as an older brother figure as he navigates the team dynamics.

Rogers remarked on Henderson’s role, highlighting how he has helped maintain a sense of peace and harmony among players. “He’s looking after us while me and Jude are squabbling with each other,” Rogers said, adding that they have playfully begun to refer to Henderson as “unc,” an abbreviation for uncle.

As England prepares to face Panama, a win will secure their progression to the round of 32. The blend of competition and camaraderie, emblematic of team spirit, will be crucial as they navigate the World Cup journey ahead.
