England fans ejected from Dallas pub after costly drinking session
England fans were removed from a Dallas pub on Tuesday evening after police intervened during a drinking session that reportedly cost over £30,000, reports BritPanorama.
Officers and bar staff instructed fans to vacate the Londoner Pub shortly before 10pm local time, even though the venue had touted a later closing time. Authorities cited the early closure as necessary due to the establishment reaching its maximum capacity while only two security guards were on duty.
The gathering, which took place ahead of England’s World Cup opener against Croatia, saw thousands of UK-based supporters expected to attend the match. On that evening, the pub sold more than 5,000 beers before being forced to close early.
Supporters began arriving at the pub from 4pm, many donned in fancy dress and draped in St George’s flags, enthusiastically chanting traditional England songs like “It’s Coming Home.” Initially, no police were present as fans filled the venue.
As the situation escalated, hundreds of fans resisted police directions, with some reportedly throwing plants from the balcony and playing football in the street area. Police eventually returned to remove fans lingering on the balcony while monitoring the situation from street level for approximately 20 minutes.
Once the venue emptied, many supporters chose to help bar staff clean up the aftermath. John Gallivan, a Bristol Rovers supporter and event organiser, expressed that the gathering had exceeded his expectations, facilitated through social media promotion. He reflected on the challenges of organising events across the vastness of the United States compared to Europe.
Gallivan also expressed criticism towards FIFA, suggesting that the governing body had poorly managed ticket pricing and logistics for fans, stating, “I think the way FIFA have managed it, it’s been disgraceful. We’ve been dealt a bad hand.”
The evening’s events serve as a vivid reminder of the intense passion and unpredictability surrounding international football gatherings, highlighting how fervour can quickly blend with the necessity of order. In the world of football, the line between celebration and chaos can often blur in the blink of an eye.
