Ian Wright reuniting with son on live TV after 18 months apart

Ian Wright reunites with son Bradley during ITV World Cup coverage

Arsenal icon Ian Wright enjoyed a heartwarming reunion with his son Bradley Wright-Phillips on Saturday evening, with the pair embracing for the first time in 18 months, reports BritPanorama.

The father and son duo were both working as pundits for ITV’s World Cup coverage, broadcasting from Brooklyn ahead of Switzerland’s 1-1 draw with Qatar. It was a special moment as the two found themselves in the same studio, with Bradley stationed in the secondary broadcasting area while his father was part of the main coverage team.

The hosts made sure to give Wright the chance to walk over and greet his son properly. When Wright reached his son, the pair shared a warm embrace, with the Arsenal legend telling him, “Look at you son, I love you bro.” Bradley responded with equal affection, saying, “I haven’t seen you in a year and a half and this is where we meet, it’s not bad.”

Wright expressed his pride in his son’s accomplishments, stating, “I’m so pleased for him, I’m so pleased to be here. It’s just brilliant to see him after everything that happened to him in England and how he managed to get here.” He further elaborated, “For him to get to where he’s got to, the pride, even just to hear him speak so wonderfully there…”

Bradley Wright-Phillips enjoyed a remarkable career in Major League Soccer, netting an impressive 126 goals in 240 appearances for New York Red Bulls, solidifying his legacy as the club’s all-time leading scorer. His tally significantly surpasses that of the second-highest scorer in the club’s history.

Across the entire MLS, Bradley ranks as the seventh-highest scorer in league history, reflecting his prolific nature in American football. The pair also reminisced about Bradley’s early connection to New York, with the striker recalling a trip to Brooklyn in 1999 when he picked up a MetroStars shirt, the club that would later become the Red Bulls. His success in the United States followed a challenging period in English football, having come through the youth ranks at Manchester City and experiencing spells at several clubs including Southampton, Plymouth, Charlton, and Brentford.

His career did not progress smoothly on home soil, with Bradley later noting that false perceptions of his character hindered him. “I never doubted myself. It was just frustrating, people lost faith in me,” he shared in a 2020 conversation with the MLS website.

After being released from Charlton in 2013, Bradley decided to make a significant change by joining New York Red Bulls, where he spent the final nine years of his playing career, culminating in a remarkable journey across the Atlantic.

This reunion serves as a reminder of the ties that can bridge the distances of time and circumstance, illustrating how family bonds endure, even through the highs and lows of sports and life.
