Tommy Fury claims victory over Eddie Hall in exhibition bout
Tommy Fury claimed a unanimous decision victory over former World’s Strongest Man Eddie Hall in their exhibition bout at Manchester’s AO Arena on Saturday night, reports BritPanorama.
The contest, dubbed ‘The Beauty vs The Beast’, featured Fury overcoming a significant 108lb weight disadvantage to secure the win, with guest judges Tony Bellew, Derek Chisora, and Chase DeMoor scoring the six-round affair 59-56, 58-56, and 57-57 in favour of Fury.
The fight employed a unique format with two-minute rounds—shorter than the standard three minutes commonly seen in professional boxing. Hall came out aggressively in the opening rounds, using his size to apply pressure on Fury and landed a solid right hand late in the first round.
However, Hall’s intensity came at a cost. By the third round, he was clearly feeling the pace, allowing Fury to capitalise. The latter demonstrated effective movement, landing sharp shots as Hall struggled to maintain his energy against the extra weight he was carrying. While Hall continued to swing until the final bell, his endurance waned as the fight progressed.
After the fight, Fury dedicated his victory to his newborn son, stating, “This was for my new baby boy, Midas.” He also commended Hall, saying, “I’ve fought a lot of people; this guy can fight. He’s not slow – he’s fit. Thank you for taking the fight and thank you for a great night in Manchester.”
In defeat, Hall acknowledged his performance, admitting, “Tommy was a really hard guy to catch, and I knew that would be the case. My engine let me down in the end.” The event had a family atmosphere, with Fury’s brother Tyson present to support him, alongside their father John, who worked in Tommy’s corner despite ongoing tension with Tyson.
Looking ahead, Fury expressed that he was in no rush for future bouts. “I’m one of the biggest and best names globally, and this is where we’re at,” he noted, adding, “For now, I want to go back to my baby boy.”
As for Hall, he has set his sights on returning to MMA with Misfits, suggesting a shift in focus following this boxing exhibition.
In the world of combat sports, where athletes are continually measured against not just their opponents but also the challenges of format and expectation, such matches provoke consideration of what motivates these fighters. Perhaps the intersection of personal milestones and professional obligations is where the true story lies.
