Divock Origi announces retirement from football
Former Liverpool striker Divock Origi, celebrated for his key goals in the 2019 Champions League final, has announced his retirement from professional football at the age of 31, reports BritPanorama.
Origi leaves behind a commendable legacy, with an impressive trophy haul that includes one Premier League title, one FA Cup, one League Cup, one Champions League, one Super Cup, and one Club World Cup.
Among his many highlights, Origi scored a pivotal goal against Barcelona in the Champions League semi-final, a moment that remains etched in Liverpool’s recent history. He also found the net in the final against Tottenham Hotspur, contributing to Liverpool’s sixth Champions League triumph.
The Belgian international, who previously became his country’s youngest goalscorer at a World Cup at just 19, played for five clubs during his senior career. After emerging through Genk’s youth ranks, he made his senior debut with Lille, where he enjoyed subsequent loan spells before his permanent transfer to Liverpool in 2014.
In 2022, he moved to AC Milan, later spending a year on loan at Nottingham Forest from 2023 to 2024. His contract with the Italian club was terminated in December 2025, shortly before he announced his retirement.
