DeChambeau to earn $1.5 million despite third-place finish at LIV Golf tournament

Bryson DeChambeau is set for a huge payday despite failing to win the latest LIV Golf tournament in South Korea, reports BritPanorama.

The American will scoop at least $1.5 million (£1.1 million) for finishing third, missing out on a playoff between Joaquin Neimann and Talor Gooch by one shot.

DeChambeau shot 11-under-par over the four rounds of golf, with his Crushers side becoming the league’s outright leaders with the most team victories.

Speaking afterwards about his team, the American expressed gratitude: “I’m super grateful that I’ve got amazing guys, an amazing team.” He added, “We all click in different ways, but we all work to make our team the best out here.”

Commenting on his performance, DeChambeau stated: “There were times where it felt amazing and times where it just leaked on me a little bit. I had my ‘A’ game on 11 and pushed it right on 12, and that’s one of those things I’ve been trying to fix all year. More work to be done, but a little push on 18. I gave myself some chances; just wasn’t my day today.”

Neimann, who secured $4 million (£2.97 million) for finishing first, became the most successful player in the history of LIV Golf, clinching a record eighth league title. He remarked, “It was fun out there. I really enjoy the feeling of winning again.”

The future of LIV Golf remains uncertain, following Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF) announcing it would cut its funding for the league at the conclusion of the 2026 season. Despite this, DeChambeau maintains a positive outlook, stating he is “optimistic” about the future, even with PIF’s decision.

In his reflections, DeChambeau acknowledged the unexpected nature of the funding withdrawal but asserted, “One door closes, another opens – I think that’s the way a lot of us are looking at it.” He emphasised that there is potential for a viable business plan for team golf, remarking on how it can expand not only globally but also at grassroots levels.

As LIV Golf navigates this turbulent transitional phase, the bold realities of sports financing intermingle with the game’s evolution. Amidst uncertainties, the palpable enthusiasm of players like DeChambeau shines through, hinting that the heart of golf continues to beat steadily, even in unpredictable times.
