Tyson Fury shifts focus to boxing ahead of fight with Mariusz Wach

Tyson Fury has revealed a dramatic shift in mindset as he prepares for the latest chapter of his heavyweight career, insisting the fortune he has amassed means there is now only one thing left to prove, reports BritPanorama.

The former world heavyweight champion, known for his unpredictable career trajectory and record-breaking paydays, now prioritizes activity over financial gain. “I have made a lot of money in my career, I have done very well, it’s not about that anymore,” Fury explained. “I want to be a professional boxer who boxes a lot, I want to be busy and active.”

The Gypsy King returns to action against experienced Polish heavyweight Mariusz Wach in Pattaya on Friday, with the bout viewed as a stepping stone towards a long-awaited showdown with Anthony Joshua later this year. Joshua must first overcome Kristian Prenga in Saudi Arabia on Saturday, victories expected to culminate in one of the most lucrative and highly anticipated fights in British boxing history.

Despite looking ahead, Fury maintains that his focus remains unwavering on Wach, understanding that opponents see facing him as the ultimate opportunity. “Everyone comes to try and beat me up but they don’t,” he remarked, underscoring the necessity to perform at his best. “I need to be on my A-game because Mariusz Wach will give me good rounds, that’s what I want.”

This fight represents a chance for Fury to rebuild momentum following successive defeats to Oleksandr Usyk, who inflicted the first losses of Fury’s professional career. The unbeaten Ukrainian won their undisputed heavyweight title fight, successfully repeating this in their rematch in December 2024. These setbacks have not shaken Fury’s confidence but have deepened his belief in the importance of staying active.

“Whatever fight comes up next, I want to be sharp for it,” he stated, reflecting a marked change from previous periods in his career, which often included long hiatuses and even retirement announcements. Looking back, Fury admits he has spent far too much time away from competitive action, stating, “I have been out of the ring seven of the last 10 years.” Now, he is intent on making a sustained return, urging, “I want to box regularly.”

Should Fury and Joshua both overcome their respective opponents, anticipation will likely build for a November clash that has eluded British boxing fans for years. As the heavyweight scene buzzes with potential, the focus remains on the upcoming bout and the shifting narratives of a champion in pursuit of relentless activity.
