Kylian Mbappe reportedly reluctant to play remaining home matches for Real Madrid

Kylian Mbappe’s future at Real Madrid uncertain amid tensions

Real Madrid insiders fear Kylian Mbappe does not want to play at the Santiago Bernabeu again this season amid growing tensions behind the scenes at the Spanish giants, reports BritPanorama.

The France international was absent on Sunday night as Real Madrid suffered a damaging 2-0 defeat to FC Barcelona at the Nou Camp, a result that confirmed Hansi Flick’s men as LaLiga champions for a second consecutive year. Mbappe watched the match from home in Madrid and posted a message of support on Instagram during the game, drawing criticism from supporters as Real were already trailing by two goals when he uploaded it.

According to The Athletic, some figures within the club believe Mbappe would prefer to avoid appearing in any of Real’s remaining home fixtures after being jeered by sections of the Bernabeu crowd on more than one occasion. The 27-year-old has not played since the 1-1 draw with Real Betis Balompié on April 24, when he was substituted after reporting discomfort in his hamstring. Although he has resumed training, uncertainty remains over when he will return to action.

It has emerged that Mbappe was involved in a disagreement with a member of the coaching staff during the build-up to the Betis match, contributing to what has been described as a strained atmosphere at the training ground. His representatives have strongly rejected suggestions that his commitment has waned, stating, “A portion of the criticism is based on an over-interpretation of elements related to a recovery period strictly supervised by the club, and does not reflect the reality of Kylian’s commitment and daily work for the team.”

Real Madrid still have three LaLiga fixtures remaining, including home matches against Real Oviedo and Athletic Club, but whether Mbappe features in either of those games remains uncertain. Manager Alvaro Arbeloa offered no firm timetable following Sunday’s defeat, noting, “There are two weeks left and depending on how his discomfort evolves, we will see whether he can play.”

Amid this backdrop, whispers of interest from Premier League giants such as Arsenal and Liverpool have surfaced, though it will take a sizeable fee to lure the Frenchman away from Spain. With each passing game, Mbappe’s status and future at Real Madrid hang in a delicate balance, underlining the complexities inherent in high-stakes football.
