Prince Harry and Meghan make royal-style public appearance in Nottingham

Prince Harry and Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, marked their first royal-style public appearance together since returning to the United Kingdom with their two children, reports BritPanorama.

The couple, aged 42 and 45 respectively, visited three charities in Nottingham as part of efforts to rebuild their public image, six years after stepping back from royal duties.

Nottingham, known for its association with the “Robin Hood” legend, holds significance for the couple; they made their first joint public appearance there following their engagement announcement in 2017.

Emily Nash, a royal contributor for NBC News, remarked that this occasion resembles a “full circle moment” akin to a royal engagement.

Thursday’s events commenced at the Community Recording Studio, a charity focused on youth and community engagement, which Harry has previously supported. The couple also visited Himmah, the region’s largest food bank, and Epic Partners, which provides mentoring, sports, and educational programs for disadvantaged youth.

Nash highlighted the couple’s long-standing ties to the charity, suggesting they could expect a warm reception due to their history.

However, their return has not been without controversy. The couple continues to contend with Buckingham Palace over their status as nonworking members of the royal family and their lack of publicly funded police protection.

A letter from King Charles III confirmed that Harry and Meghan remain designated as nonworking royals. In response, a spokesperson for the couple expressed surprise at the letter, acknowledging their acceptance of this status when they left the UK for life in Montecito, California.

The strained relationship with the royal family has seen the couple make serious allegations of racism and bullying, notably in their Netflix documentary “Harry & Meghan” and Harry’s memoir, “Spare.”

News of their return sent ripples through the British media, and the couple faced additional challenges as they reestablish themselves in British society.

Despite early difficulties, including having to change their children’s school shortly after their arrival, Nash reported that Archie and Lilibet are now adjusting well at their new school. “They’re settling in well now, and Archie and Lili are very happy,” she noted.

The Nottingham visit will reignite discussions regarding their security arrangements. Nash described the appearance as the couple “dipping their toe back in the water,” and emphasized that nothing would impede their plans. “They don’t need the palace’s permission to do this,” she concluded.

As the couple navigates these complexities, their future role within royal engagements remains an ongoing point of public interest.
