Xavi Simons ruled out for the season, hitting Tottenham hard

Tottenham star Xavi Simons has been ruled out for the rest of the season, in a huge blow to Roberto De Zerbi’s side, reports BritPanorama.

The Dutchman was carried off on a stretcher with a knee injury during the second half of Tottenham’s 1-0 win against Wolves. Initially, Simons attempted to continue after colliding with Wolves defender Hugo Bueno but ultimately had to leave the pitch, significantly impacting Tottenham’s hopes for the remainder of the campaign.

Taking to social media, Simons shared his disappointment, stating: “They say life can be cruel, and today it feels that way. My season has come to an abrupt end, and I’m just trying to process it. Honestly, I’m heartbroken. None of it makes sense.” His absence is not just a setback for Tottenham, who are currently teetering just above the relegation zone, but also jeopardizes his participation in the upcoming World Cup with the Netherlands.

The Netherlands are set to commence their World Cup journey against Japan on June 14, having qualified impressively. Simons lamented the loss of both his club and national aspirations, expressing: “All I’ve wanted to do is fight for my team, and now the ability to do that has been snatched away from me… along with the World Cup.”

Video footage captured home supporters directing abuse at the injured player as he was wheeled off the pitch, to which Simons responded by shouting at a particularly vocal Wolves fan. Meanwhile, Joao Palhinha secured the match-winner for Tottenham with a close-range strike late in the game, marking the team’s first Premier League victory since December.

Despite their newfound three points, Tottenham remains precariously positioned in the relegation zone, sitting just two points above the bottom three with four matches remaining. This latest injury compounds an already challenging situation for De Zerbi, who is grappling with the absence of several key players due to long-term injuries. The pressing question now is whether this victory can instil the confidence required for a successful fight against relegation.

In the relentless world of football, Simons’ misfortune serves as a stark reminder of how quickly fortunes can change, both for players and clubs alike.
