Charity highlights brain tumours as leading cancer killer

The charity Brain Tumour Research has reported that brain tumours are the leading cancer killer of people under 40 in the UK, with charitable organisations providing more than three-quarters of total national research funding, and government contributions accounting for just 25 per cent, reports BritPanorama.

Earlier this year, the Rare Cancers Bill, guided through Parliament by Edinburgh South West MP Scott Arthur, was enacted to enhance research and investment into cancers that affect fewer than one in every 2,000 individuals.

However, Goodburn contended that the legislation fell short, arguing that appointing a dedicated brain cancer lead would facilitate more effective research and clinical trials.

Arthur, who labelled the act as “vital,” recognised that the upcoming meeting with the Prime Minister could catalyse additional progress in addressing these issues.

“I hope his meeting with the prime minister is a moment for concrete progress to be made,” Arthur stated, highlighting the potential for further advancements in the field.
