Scottie Scheffler favoured for Cadillac Championship

Scottie Scheffler enters this week’s Cadillac Championship as the bookmakers’ favourite, despite not having secured a victory since late January, reports BritPanorama.

The tournament marks the PGA Tour’s return to Trump National Doral Miami after a decade-long absence, with a 72-player field competing on the challenging Blue Monster course, which features no cut.

Notably, several elite players have opted to sit out the event. Rory McIlroy, Xander Schauffele, and Ludvig Aberg are among those taking the week off as they prepare for another signature event and the upcoming PGA Championship.

Scheffler is currently priced at +300 to claim victory on the 7,739-yard, par-72 layout that features water hazards on ten holes.

Arriving at Doral in encouraging form, the 29-year-old American has posted back-to-back second-place finishes at Augusta National and Hilton Head. His performance at the Masters was particularly impressive, as he gained 6.5 strokes through approach shots alone.

The Blue Monster’s demanding layout is well suited to Scheffler’s strengths, rewarding exceptional long-iron play and requiring precise short-game execution due to the greens’ challenging conditions, especially in windy weather. Scheffler ranks among the top long-iron players in the game, enhancing his prospects for success at the Florida venue. His streak of 72 tournaments without missing a cut also remains intact.

Beyond his strong positioning, Scheffler is on the cusp of a statistical milestone that no golfer has previously achieved on the PGA Tour. Currently leading the tour with an average of 5.06 birdies per round during the 2026 season, he is slightly ahead of McIlroy and Akshay Bhatia, who are tied for second.

Should he maintain this pace, Scheffler would become the first player in tour history to average more than five birdies per round across a full campaign. His scoring average of 69.3 through 32 rounds also leads the tour this season, showing a clear uptick from previous years when his birdie rates ranged from 4.35 to 4.88.

As the competition unfolds, the stakes are high and the course will undoubtedly test the mettle of every player involved. This championship could be a significant chapter in the ongoing narrative of Scheffler’s 2026 season, where the blend of skill and perseverance often determines the winner.
