Rory McIlroy has shared insights into his family’s new life in the UK, confirming that he and his wife Erica Stoll are now settled into their luxurious Surrey home following their move from Florida, reports BritPanorama.
The world No 2 revealed he has spent the last ten days at their UK property as they transition away from their long-time residence in the United States, coinciding with this week’s Memorial Tournament.
McIlroy’s relocation was first mentioned last year during The Players Championship, where fellow PGA Tour player J.J. Spaun disclosed McIlroy’s plans to build a home near London. The property has since undergone extensive renovations reportedly costing millions of pounds.
Now, McIlroy has confirmed that the move is complete, saying, “I feel like a part-timer these days.” He added that the recent break from competition allowed him to get acclimatised to their new home. “It was nice to be there for the last 10 days,” he noted.
These remarks suggest that McIlroy, along with Erica and their daughter Poppy, will be spending significantly more time in Britain after over a decade in Florida. Previously, McIlroy was based in Palm Beach, benefiting from the area’s warm climate and world-class golf facilities. Erica’s desire to spend more time in the UK has been widely reported.
During Netflix’s documentary series “Full Swing,” McIlroy mentioned his wife’s interest in returning to the UK, stating, “If it was up to her, she wouldn’t move to England straightaway, but she definitely wants to spend more time there.” This sentiment comes against a backdrop of Erica expressing discomfort with Florida’s intense heat.
The Northern Irish golfer’s choice to strengthen his UK base aligns with a broader adjustment in his competitive schedule, as he prioritises golf’s most significant events over maintaining a full calendar throughout the year.
