Richarlison excluded from Tottenham’s Premier League squad

Tottenham star Richarlison has been left out of the club’s Premier League squad by Roberto de Zerbi and will no longer play in top-flight games for the remaining half of the season, reports BritPanorama.

The Brazilian forward, aged 29, was nearing a return to former club Everton ahead of Tuesday’s transfer deadline, but negotiations collapsed without a deal being finalized. It is understood that the north London club informed Richarlison prior to the deadline that he was not part of their plans for the current season.

His departure is now anticipated within the coming days, as transfer windows in both Turkey and Saudi Arabia remain open, providing possible exit routes from Tottenham. Following the team’s 2-0 home defeat to Newcastle United, manager Roberto de Zerbi addressed the situation, stating, “Richarlison, I don’t know. He said too many times he wants to leave.”

Richarlison had featured in Tottenham’s season opener against Brentford, starting the match, but was entirely excluded from the squad that faced Newcastle. De Zerbi acknowledged earlier in August that replacing the striker would be challenging, as finding another forward of Richarlison’s calibre was no simple task.

Spurs recently brought in Omar Marmoush on loan from Manchester City, with the Egyptian stepping into the side against Newcastle. Earlier this week, Richarlison expressed his desire to be “treated with the same respect I’ve always shown Spurs.” In a detailed statement, he noted, “After everything I’ve been through in recent years, I decided that never again would anyone else decide my future for me.”

The forward detailed his past hardships and noted, “Pressure, threats, retaliation – none of that scares me. I’ve been through worse… believe me.” He emphasized that any move to another club would need to be beneficial for the team, stating, “I expect my situation to be treated with the same respect I’ve always shown Spurs and everyone I’ve worked with during this time.”

Richarlison’s time at Tottenham began in the summer of 2022 when he arrived from Everton, having previously made the move to Merseyside from Watford four years prior. He scored 11 goals in 32 appearances in the league last season, along with providing four assists. As Richarlison’s story at Spurs unfolds, it serves as a striking reminder of how swiftly fortunes can change in football, affecting both player and club in unpredictable ways.
