Yoram Zague receives prison sentence for speeding in Copenhagen
Paris Saint-Germain defender Yoram Zague has received a 20-day prison sentence and a three-year ban from driving after travelling at more than twice the permitted speed through Copenhagen’s city centre, reports BritPanorama.
The 19-year-old full-back was caught driving his BMW M4 at 65mph across a bridge in the Danish capital, where the limit stands at just 31mph.
Zague, who was on loan at FC Copenhagen, was arrested in December, which led to the immediate termination of his arrangement with the club. He admitted to the charges and chose not to challenge the court’s ruling.
During court proceedings at Frederiksberg, Zague was cautioned that deportation from Denmark remained a possibility. His vehicle was not confiscated by authorities due to complications regarding its ownership, as prosecutor Josefine Samuelsen explained: “Zague’s car has not been seized, due to the ownership situation around it.”
Following the collapse of his Copenhagen arrangement, Zague secured another loan move to Belgian Challenger Pro League side KAS Eupen. However, he must return to Denmark to serve his custodial sentence. The teenager has previously featured nine times for PSG’s first team and found the net against OGC Nice.
Eupen now faces the decision of whether to retain the defender once he completes his time behind bars, leaving questions regarding the next chapter of his professional journey. PSG has yet to comment on the news but previously wished Eupen well for his tenure at the club.
As Zague serves his sentence, he is reminded of the thread between personal responsibility and professional aspirations, a notion echoing through the corridors of football’s complex moral landscape.
