Manchester United confirms £34 million deal to sign midfielder Ederson from Atalanta

Manchester United agree deal to sign Brazilian midfielder Ederson

Manchester United have agreed a deal to sign highly rated Brazilian midfielder Ederson from Atalanta. It is understood United will pay an initial fee of £34million, plus an additional £3.8million in potential add-ons, reports BritPanorama.

The move is anticipated to go through before July, subject to the Brazilian’s medical. Ederson is understood to sign a four-year deal at Old Trafford, according to The Athletic.

United have been in need of a new man in the middle following the departure of Casemiro from the club. Ederson joins United having played 30 league games last season for Atalanta and over 150 times for the club. He has featured three times for his national team, marking a significant step up in his playing career.

United secured a positive end to the season and confirmed last month that Michael Carrick will remain in charge of the club. Carrick guided United to a third-place finish and qualification back to the Champions League. Appointed in January on a temporary basis, he will continue with a two-year contract, having initially taken over the Red Devils while they were in seventh place.

In a statement, Carrick expressed his pride in leading the club, saying, “From the moment that I arrived here 20 years ago, I felt the magic of Manchester United.” The signing of Ederson represents the first significant addition in Carrick’s era, with the midfielder playing in a similar role to that which Carrick once held.

Director of Football, Jason Wilcox, commented on Carrick’s appointment: “Michael has thoroughly earned the opportunity to continue leading our men’s team. His achievements in leading the club back to the Champions League should not be understated.” With a focus on building a winning culture at Carrington and among the players, United appears set to embrace a new chapter of ambition.

As Manchester United begins to recalibrate under Carrick’s leadership, the arrival of Ederson adds both depth and dynamism to their midfield. Football often reminds us that every new signing is a dance with destiny—sometimes glorious, sometimes challenging—but the hope is that this move marks the beginning of brighter days for the club.
