Luke Littler nearly misses Premier League win in Leeds
Luke Littler has disclosed that he nearly missed Thursday night’s Premier League victory in Leeds. The 19-year-old secured his sixth consecutive win of the season with a 6-5 triumph over Luke Humphries, extending his lead at the top of the table, reports BritPanorama.
Littler, who has already qualified for the finals at the O2 Arena later this month, currently holds a five-point advantage over Jonny Clayton. However, he admitted he came close to not participating due to unexpected delays.
Struggling to get ready on time alongside his girlfriend, Faith Millar, Littler rushed to reach the First Direct Arena. “I came straight from home. We were supposed to leave for 3 PM, but we didn’t. I wasn’t ready, Faith wasn’t ready and then we’re rushing about,” he explained.
“I was driving, yeah, it was a bit reckless, but I had to get here. The timing just kept getting pushed back, but I managed to arrive around twenty to seven,” he added.
On his way to the venue, Littler surprisingly encountered Leeds players Ethan Ampadu and Willy Gnonto. “I spotted Ethan Ampadu. I was like, ‘Is that Ethan Ampadu?’, and then the next person was Willy Gnonto. I beeped at him and they were all looking, so I beeped again,” he reflected.
In addition to his win and adventuring encounters, Littler praised Manchester United’s resurgence under manager Michael Carrick. “I think obviously he’s done a great job,” he stated, voicing his belief in his capabilities compared to previous management changes that yielded mixed results.
With just one week of regular Premier League Darts action left, Littler and his fellow competitors will look to impress in Birmingham next, with finals scheduled at the O2 Arena in London on May 28.
