Luis Diaz addresses Hakimi tackle after Champions League clash
Luis Diaz has sent a message to Achraf Hakimi after his bruising tackle on the PSG star forced him to leave the field in Tuesday night’s Champions League clash at the Parc des Princes, reports BritPanorama.
Diaz netted twice for Bayern Munich as they continued their 100 per cent record this season, with the Colombia international bagging a brace inside the first 32 minutes. However, just before half-time, the former Liverpool winger was dismissed after a crunching tackle on Hakimi.
Hakimi, a key player for Luis Enrique’s side, exited the match in tears following the incident. PSG eventually pulled a goal back through Joao Neves, but they were unable to salvage points from the encounter, ultimately losing 2-1 to the Bundesliga champions.
In the aftermath, Diaz faced significant backlash from some PSG supporters, who expressed their discontent online. The 28-year-old took to social media to acknowledge the situation, admitting his frustration over the red card while expressing hope for Hakimi’s swift recovery.
“It was a night full of emotions. Football always reminds us that in 90 minutes anything can happen, the best and the worst,” wrote Diaz. “I was sad not to finish the match with my teammates, but proud of their incredible effort. I wish Hakimi a quick return to the field.”
Bayern coach Vincent Kompany defended his player, stating that Diaz did not intend to injure Hakimi. “All that matters is that Hakimi recovers quickly,” Kompany said. “What can I say? The intensity levels were massive. It is an unfortunate moment and that can happen.”
Kompany also reflected positively on Bayern’s performance, celebrating their ongoing winning streak. “It is great that we managed to get a result like that holding on as a team,” he added, while emphasising the need for humility despite their success.
PSG’s upcoming clash against Lyon in Ligue 1 presents an opportunity for the team to regain momentum following their recent defeat. Meanwhile, Bayern will look to extend their winning streak against Union Berlin this Saturday.
In football, the line between intensity and recklessness can be razor-thin, reminding fans and players alike of the sport’s unpredictable nature. As both teams move forward, the focus will be on recovery and preparation for their next challenges.
