James Milner announces retirement after a distinguished football career

James Milner has announced his retirement from football at the age of 40, reports BritPanorama.

The midfielder concludes his career after a three-year stint with Brighton, wrapping up a remarkable journey that has seen him secure 13 major trophies. Milner’s retirement marks the end of a 24-season tenure in the Premier League, where he made his debut at just 16 years old.

Writing on social media, Milner reflected on his career, stating, “After 24 seasons in the @premierleague, it feels like the right time to bring an end to my playing career.” He noted his pride in rising from making his debut for @leedsunited to becoming the youngest goalscorer in Premier League history.

Milner’s journey took him through renowned clubs such as @nufc, @astonvilla, @mancity, @liverpoolfc, and @officialbhafc, as well as a brief stint at @officialstfc. “Every club has played a huge role in my life and career, and I want to thank everyone involved — the owners, staff, coaches, teammates and supporters who welcomed me and helped me along the way,” he added.

Throughout his career, Milner experienced a range of memorable moments, from battling relegation to winning prestigious trophies and representing @england in two European Championships and two World Cups. “But more than anything, it’s the people and friendships I’ve made throughout the game that I’ll cherish forever,” he remarked.

Milner leaves the game with a sense of gratitude: “I leave the game with immense pride, gratitude and memories that will stay with me for the rest of my life.” Across his career, he achieved significant milestones, including 903 club appearances and overtaking Gareth Barry to become the player with the most Premier League outings.

His contributions include winning trophies such as the Champions League in 2019, two league titles with Manchester City, and an FA Cup with Liverpool. While he scored one international goal for England, Milner found the net 86 times throughout his club career.

As Milner steps away from the pitch, one can’t help but wonder what the next chapter holds for a player who has become synonymous with perseverance and adaptability in English football.
