James Milner has announced his retirement from football at the age of 40, bringing an end to a distinguished career that has spanned 24 seasons, reports BritPanorama.

The midfielder concluded his playing days following a three-year stint with Brighton, during which he contributed to the club qualifying for Europe for the second time in its history. Milner leaves behind a legacy adorned with 13 major trophies, a significant achievement in the sport.

In a heartfelt message posted on social media, Milner reflected on his journey: “After 24 seasons in the @premierleague, it feels like the right time to bring an end to my playing career.” He started with a debut for @leedsunited at 16 and went on to become the youngest scorer in Premier League history.

Milner expressed gratitude for his experiences, stating, “Every club has played a huge role in my life and career,” thanking coaches, teammates, and supporters who have accompanied him throughout. He specifically acknowledged the highs and lows of his career, from relegation scraps to lifting prestigious trophies, while also representing @england at multiple international tournaments.

He portrayed a deep sense of appreciation, stating, “I leave the game with immense pride, gratitude and memories that will stay with me for the rest of my life.” Milner started his career at Leeds and after loan spells, moved through clubs like Newcastle, Aston Villa, Manchester City, and Liverpool, winning trophies at each stage, including two league titles with City and a Champions League title with Liverpool.

Across his career, Milner accumulated 903 club appearances and holds the record for the most Premier League outings, surpassing Gareth Barry. He also made 61 appearances for England, scoring one goal during his tenure.

As Milner steps away from the pitch, it marks the conclusion of an era for a player defined by versatility and resilience. With such a storied career, the question remains—what paths will this Premier League legend choose next?
