Donald Trump to attend NBA Finals Game Three

Donald Trump is set to attend Game Three of the NBA Finals at Madison Square Garden, with New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani also expected to be present, though he will not be seated alongside the former president, reports BritPanorama.

The matchup will see the San Antonio Spurs facing the New York Knicks, with Trump’s attendance anticipated on June 8 at 8:30 PM EDT (June 9, 1:30 AM BST), according to the New York Post.

The Knicks have reached the NBA Finals for the first time in nearly three decades, striving for their first championship title since 1973. The series begins in Texas on Wednesday evening before moving to New York for the crucial third fixture.

Security preparations at Madison Square Garden have reportedly been stepped up in anticipation of the President’s appearance. Trump, who hails from New York, is noted for consistently attending significant sporting events since his return from the White House.

He had previously confirmed his intention to attend a game after receiving invitations from multiple sources, including Knicks owner James Dolan. “I think I’ll be going to one of the games… Boy, what a team! They win all their games… it’s great to see it,” Trump remarked. The former President expressed enthusiasm for the Knicks, remarking on their longstanding struggles and recent success.

Mamdani attended Game Two of the Eastern Conference Finals and indicated he would not attend Game Three with Trump, clarifying, “If the President went to a game, that’s his decision to make. If I go to the game, I’ll be doing so separately.” He later added, “If the President comes to watch the Knicks, I’ll leave the president to watch the Knicks as he wants to watch the Knicks.”

When questioned about the possible reception Trump might receive from the crowd, Mamdani refrained from making predictions, stating, “New Yorkers, we are an unpredictable people. I think I’d make a fool of myself if I wanted to make a prediction.”

The convergence of high-profile individuals in the audience underscores the event’s significance, not just for basketball fans but as a notable moment reflecting the intersection of sports and political presence in New York.
