Cromlix hotel returns to profitability after losses

Cromlix, the five-star Perthshire hotel owned by Andy and Kim Murray, has swung back into the black following a challenging period that saw the business accumulate losses exceeding £1 million, reports BritPanorama.

Newly filed accounts with Companies House reveal the luxury establishment recorded a profit of £193,379 for the financial year ending March 2025. This marks the first profitable year since 2022 for the property, which was acquired by the Wimbledon champion for £1.8 million in 2013.

The positive financial news follows the couple’s announcement of a temporary closure for extensive redevelopment works. The hotel officially closed its doors on 4 January, with Andy and Kim Murray assuming direct control of daily operations in 2023, a decision that initially led to significant financial difficulties.

In their early months, the couple faced disappointing financial results, with consecutive annual losses of £919,572 and £369,045. These combined deficits of nearly £1.3 million raised questions about the viability of the venture under their stewardship.

Yet the latest accounts demonstrate a remarkable turnaround. Net current liabilities decreased from approximately £1.8 million to £1.6 million. The ambitious renovation project, which commenced in October, includes the construction of two new restaurants, a wellness facility, and three additional suites. The Kings Group from Doune is leading the development, in collaboration with Perthshire architect Fergus Purdie and interior designer Suzanne Garuda.

The principal new dining space will accommodate up to 80 guests and offer views across the estate, with an upgraded kitchen to support increased capacity. Kim Murray expressed enthusiasm about the plans, stating, “I’m really excited about this next phase for Cromlix. The Glasshouse, our current restaurant, has been doing really well and is fully booked most of the time, but the space lacks a bit of personality and doesn’t deliver aesthetically.” Executive head chef James Mearing, appointed earlier in the year, will have the opportunity to “put his stamp on this new food experience at Cromlix.”

The existing Glasshouse restaurant will continue to host afternoon teas and various events after reopening. Cromlix is expected to welcome guests again in May 2026, although the booking team and online shop will remain operational throughout the closure period. The hotel is just one aspect of the Murray family’s diverse business portfolio.

This latest development at Cromlix serves as a reminder of the unpredictable nature of business ventures. In a world where challenges abound, the Murrays are indeed proving that resilience can pave the way to renewed success.
