Colchester fans face new parking charges
Colchester United supporters may soon be required to pay £16.50 for parking at the Colchester Leisure Park due to newly enforced regulations, reports BritPanorama.
The charges will apply across the multi-storey car park managed by the North Essex Parking Partnership (NEPP), which has also introduced additional red route restrictions aimed at enhancing traffic flow.
The JobServe Community Stadium, located near the A12, has limited parking facilities, adding to the difficulties for fans. The nearest railway station, Colchester North, is approximately two miles away, necessitating a 40-minute walk for supporters.
Fans may opt for bus transportation; however, this option also requires significant travel time, with journeys taking over half an hour. Councillor Martin Goss, responsible for waste, neighbourhoods, and leisure at Colchester City Council, supports NEPP’s initiatives, stating the measures will enhance access to the leisure park while ensuring clear guidance for motorists.
“It’s important that parking remains available for the people using its businesses and attractions,” Goss remarked. He further explained that these actions are intended to facilitate the safe movement of traffic within the area.
As Colchester prepares for its League Cup campaign opener against Southampton, manager Danny Cowley has acknowledged ongoing challenges in player recruitment, asserting that while the pre-season schedule was designed to be strenuous, positive team responses have been noted.
