Christos Tzolis signs for Arsenal after £34 million transfer from Club Brugge
Christos Tzolis has revealed the conversation with Mikel Arteta that convinced him to join Arsenal after completing his £34 million move from Club Brugge, reports BritPanorama.
The Greece international has signed a long-term contract running until 2031, becoming the latest addition to Arteta’s Premier League champions ahead of the new campaign.
Tzolis arrives in north London following Leandro Trossard’s departure to Besiktas earlier this month, with Arsenal moving quickly to strengthen their attacking options. The 24-year-old admitted that the opportunity to work under Arteta was a major factor behind his decision, disclosing that they spent approximately an hour discussing the club’s ambitions and the role he is expected to play.
“I had a nice conversation,” Tzolis said. “It was around an hour. We talked about everything, about the club, about myself, about his plans, about me of course, about the team. It was only positive things.”
The winger expressed his excitement about the transfer, stating that he became intrigued once his representatives informed him that Arsenal were monitoring his situation. “It’s absolutely amazing to sign for such a big club, the champions of England,” he commented.
Tzolis returns to English football with unfinished business after an underwhelming spell at Norwich City, where he struggled to establish himself since his arrival in 2021. However, during two successful seasons with Club Brugge, he emerged as one of the most productive attackers in the Belgian top flight, notching up 43 goals and 45 assists in 108 appearances while helping secure the league title.
Confident in his ability to make an immediate impact at the Emirates, Tzolis outlined the qualities that Arsenal supporters can expect. “I’m a direct player, I go for goals or assists,” he explained. “I’m always hungry to score or to give the final pass to my team-mates. And I can say I work hard for the team, also in the defensive part.”
Having already completed a full pre-season programme with Club Brugge, Tzolis is expected to join Arsenal’s preparations immediately and could make his unofficial debut during next week’s friendly against Girona.
