AC Milan set to interview Oliver Glasner for managerial position after Crystal Palace exit

AC Milan seeks Oliver Glasner as new manager

AC Milan are preparing to hold talks with Oliver Glasner as the Italian giants step up their search for a new manager following a disappointing Serie A campaign, reports BritPanorama.

The Rossoneri are looking to rebuild after finishing fifth in the league and missing out on Champions League qualification, a result that ultimately cost Massimiliano Allegri his job. Glasner has emerged as one of the leading candidates to take charge at the San Siro, with discussions expected to take place in the coming days.

Glasner’s stock has risen considerably following a hugely successful spell at Crystal Palace, where he guided the club to FA Cup glory and further silverware in both the Community Shield and Europa Conference League. The Austrian’s achievements have attracted interest from across Europe, with Milan considering whether the 51-year-old could restore the club to prominence in Italian football.

Previous reports indicated that Milan had explored a move for former Bournemouth boss Andoni Iraola, but that option did not materialise. Attention has now turned towards Glasner, who arrives with a growing reputation as one of Europe’s most highly regarded coaches.

Milan are also reportedly working on structural changes behind the scenes. Former Manchester United interim manager Ralf Rangnick has emerged as a leading contender for the club’s sporting director position following the recent departure of Igli Tare after just one season.

The potential appointments of Glasner and Rangnick are interconnected; the pair previously collaborated at Red Bull Salzburg, where Glasner served as an assistant coach before launching his managerial career. Milan owner Gerry Cardinale and senior adviser Zlatan Ibrahimovic reportedly view the duo as a partnership that could provide a clear long-term vision for the club.

The seven-time European champions have struggled to achieve sustained domestic success since winning the Serie A title in the 2021-22 season and are eager to return to competing for major honours. Should Glasner accept the position, it would represent a significant challenge in his managerial career; he began his coaching journey in Austria before enjoying success at clubs like LASK and Wolfsburg, culminating in leading Eintracht Frankfurt to Europa League glory in 2022.

Glasner’s tenure at Palace carved a new chapter in the club’s history, turning it into a serious contender and delivering multiple trophies during an extraordinary period in south London. His next steps will be closely watched, as Milan navigates a period of transition with an eye towards reclaiming its status at the top of Italian football.

As the club turns another page, the question remains whether Glasner’s winning formula can breathe new life into the Rossoneri, igniting hope in the hearts of its passionate supporters once again.
