Trump criticizes Burnham, urges North Sea drilling
Donald Trump has described Andy Burnham as “extremely liberal” in his first comments about the Labour frontrunner, urging him to pursue North Sea oil drilling, a stance that has been avoided by Sir Keir Starmer, reports BritPanorama.
Following his critique of Starmer, the US president suggested that if Burnham becomes the next Labour leader, he should take steps to exploit oil resources from the North Sea. Trump characterized Burnham as “a mayor of a town,” noting his left-leaning policies.

When asked specifically about Burnham, Trump stated, “I hear he’s extremely liberal, extremely, so that means he probably won’t open up the North Sea.” He also urged Starmer to take action by visiting Aberdeen, which he called the “hottest city of the whole continent,” to reverse decisions he deems detrimental to the economy.
Trump claimed that accessing North Sea oil would significantly benefit the UK, criticizing the reliance on imported oil from Norway and highlighting the irony that Norway benefits financially while the UK struggles. He described the potential for oil drilling as “among the greatest deals in the world.”
