Reform UK activist suggests asylum seekers should face 'concentration camps' in undercover footage

Reform UK MP recorded suggesting concentration camps for asylum seekers

An undercover investigation has captured an aspiring Reform UK MP suggesting that asylum seekers should be placed in “concentration camps” and asserting that Muslims “cannot” be British, reports BritPanorama.

The remarks were filmed as part of an ITV investigation that has already led to accusations of “appalling behaviour” and “extreme racism” within the party. Reform UK has stated it will investigate instances of inappropriate conduct among its members, emphasizing that there is “no room for racism” in the party.

In footage set to air on Sunday, the Reform activist described himself as “pretty hardline about Islam,” stating, “If a Muslim’s prepared to de-convert, I’m happy. But if they want to remain faithful to Islam… to me, you cannot be a Muslim and British… it’s like oil and water.”

When addressing the issue of individuals crossing the Channel in small boats, he declared, “In the first week of election, build concentration camps, and everyone who comes across on the Channel, you’re in there.” Various clips from this investigation elucidated a pattern of racist language being used by other members and councillors of the party.

Moreover, it was reported that a Reform councillor mentioned the party’s board was “hardline,” and that revealing certain views publicly could lead to expulsion. Excerpts from the investigation included shocking statements, such as references to Black children being called “animals” and a Reform member claiming his area had become “infested” with Asian families.

Reform MP Sarah Pochin publicly described the party as “chauvinistic,” highlighting systemic issues that exclude women from involvement. The sting operation also seemingly revealed Reform leader Nigel Farage being dismissive of a mayoral candidate accused of making racist comments about then-deputy prime minister David Lammy.

Labour Party chairperson Bridget Phillipson criticized Farage’s handling of the situation, stating he was “completely unfit to lead.” She remarked, “Bad apples don’t fall far from the tree. The sleaze, scandals and appalling revelations of racism and rank misogyny piling up by the day go right to the top of Reform UK.”

In response to the controversy, Reform stated, “We have improved and prioritised our vetting procedures, but from time to time, a handful of individuals who do not share our values will initially make it through vetting… There is no room for racism in Reform UK.” They reiterated their commitment to respecting the process of ongoing investigations.

The unfolding events leave an air of uncertainty surrounding the party’s internal culture, raising questions about accountability and the integrity of its leadership.
